While drunk driving is an issue at any time throughout the year, it is particularly important to watch out for drunk drivers when there is a holiday or other occasion to celebrate. Celebrations, such as a barbecue for the Fourth of July, typically involve a lot of alcohol. Because such celebrations will be going on simultaneously and in large numbers, there is a greater chance that drunk drivers will be on the road, which in turn leads to a greater chance of a car accident. In such a situation, it would be wise to contact an expert drunk driving attorney at 617-787-3700.
According to statistics collected in Texas, drunk driving incidents tend to increase around Labor Day. An average of 40 people have died over the last 5 Labor Day weekends, and authorities have suggested that over one-third of those deaths have been alcohol related. Accordingly, a AAA representative released a statement that encourages anyone attending Labor Day festivities to make sure that they have a safe ride to and from their destinations. As part of an effort to curb driving accidents in general, the group is also encouraging people to put their phones down while driving, particularly this weekend when there will likely be more drunk drivers on the road than usual.

Driving at night can be dangerous for a number of reasons. Poorer lighting means drivers will have a tougher time seeing signs, pedestrians, or even other drivers. It is for this reason that one of the first driving restrictions faced by the elderly or those who cannot see well, is that they cannot drive at night. But another arguably more serious danger is that when driving at night, there are more likely to be drunk drivers on the road. Add alcohol to the risks already inherent in driving, and we have a recipe for disaster. When there are injuries caused by such a situation, it would be wise to contact an expert car accident attorney at 617-787-3700.
Driving at three in the morning proved fatal in the Bronx, New York earlier this year, when a five-vehicle wreck left one innocent party dead. According to reports, Andres Mayora, 54, was driving his jeep over 70 miles per hour late at night when he crashed into a Nissan Altima. Both cars careened a fair distance before crashing into several other, parked cars.
Alarmed at hearing the crash, a desk manager at a nearby assisted living facility came out to investigate. He immediately saw that the driver of the Nissan Altima was in terrible condition. The witness called the police immediately, but correctly suspected that the driver, 31 year-old Shiquan Dunn, had been killed on impact. The witness then noticed a visibly intoxicated Mayora attempting to start his jeep and flee the scene. Reports further indicate that Mayora, even while in the hospital being treated for wounds, was too intoxicated to understand that he had caused anybody harm.

The dangers of alcohol have been made abundantly clear through data, clinical studies, and experience. Alcohol providers must be exceedingly careful not to serve their patrons to the point of danger to themselves and others, and patrons must be careful not to consume to the point of danger. Adding alcohol to the equation in the context of most any activity likely increases the risk of harm or death. In such a situation, it may be wise to contact an expert wrongful death attorney at 617-787-3700.
In an effort to encourage its attorneys to work longer hours, a Florida law firm, Gladstone Law Group, has its own alcohol bar on site. On June 19, 2013, Susan Salerno, who worked as a paralegal for the firm, consumed far too many alcoholic beverages, and on her way home from work she was struck by a train.
Salerno’s estate filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming that the Gladstone Law Group was aware that Salerno was an alcoholic yet proceeded to serve her anyway. Salerno’s estate cited a statute creating liability for vendors that sell to known alcoholics. However, a Florida Court determined that the statute applied only to vendors, and employers serving alcohol are subject to a distinct set of legal rules. Because Salerno was not acting in the course of her employment when she was killed the court found there was no liability for the law group.
