31 year-old Kervens Boutin, of West Hempstead, New York, had a blood-alcohol level of .31 percent, nearly four times the legal limit, only 40 minutes after the single-car crash that resulted in the wrongful deaths of two of his four passengers earlier this year.
According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office, marijuana was also found in the driver’s system shortly after the car accident. Boutin was traveling west on the Southern State Parkway near North Merrick that night when he lost control of the car and spun off the road, smashing into a tree.
20 year-old Bryan Rivas and 22 year-old Blossom Castro, both from Hempstead, were pronounced dead at the scene of the auto accident. The two other passengers were rushed to the hospital with severe personal injuries. Boutin’s legs were severed as a result of the grizzly car accident.
Boutin was arraigned on charges that included two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and several lesser charges.
