The California Highway Patrol (“CHP”) says two teenagers from Nevada County, California were killed in a DUI crash. CHP says 17 year-old Tyler Nielson, who was driving at the time of the crash, was killed instantly. 16 year-old Justin Gardner was flown to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. CHP says another 16 year-old was also in the car and was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The car crash happened on Sunday just before noon on I-5, one mile north of State Route 165. CHP says a woman, identified as 21 year-old Sabrina Distura of San Jose, California, drove across the center divider lines on I-5 and collided head-on with the car that the two teenage boys were in. The woman driving the car was taken to the Los Banos Memorial Hospital where she was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, CHP says.
