Vermont Governor Passes Bill That Will Expand Use Of Ignition Interlock Devices.

Vermont Governor, Peter Shumlin, recently signed a bill into law that will expand the use of ignition interlock devices for individuals who are convicted of drunk driving in Vermont. The program, which is voluntary, will permit individuals who have been convicted of drunk driving to continue to drive if they are able to pass a breath test in their motor vehicle before driving. If the driver is not able to pass the breath test, their ignition will not start. According to Shumlin, the legislation is a good idea because Vermont workers who have been convicted of a drunk driving offense will be able to continue working, but Vermont roadways will nevertheless be safer.
