Virginia Man Hit With Manslaughter Charge After Drunk Driving Death.

Richard E. Lawrence, Jr., 56, faces a charge of felony aggravated involuntary manslaughter after he caused a car crash that killed his passenger, Mary Hoover.

On a Saturday night in June 2012, Lawrence, after having a few drinks, crashed his 1999 Saab into a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer in Hanover, VA. The crash wrecked the Saab and set the Chevrolet on fire.

Other drivers on the road pulled over to help the victims of the crash. A woman and three small children were pulled from the Chevrolet and transported to the VCU Medical Center emergency room. Lawrence was visibly dazed when he was pulled from the Saab. He neglected to tell his rescuers that Mary Hoover was still trapped in the wreckage. Mary died from her injuries a short time later.

The local Virginia district attorney has charged Lawrence with felony aggravated involuntary manslaughter for the death of Mary Hoover.
