A suspected drunk driving crash on North Springs Road in Columbia, South Carolina stole the life of 3-year-old Josiah Jenkins. The suspected drunk driver is being held without bond.
The crash occurred Friday night around 10:00 p.m. as 3-year-old Josiah Jenkins and his mother, Latoya Jenkins, were driving on North Springs Road. Suddenly, another vehicle driven by 44-year-old Lonnie Gross III veered into Jenkins’ lane and hit their vehicle head-on. The mother suffered minor injuries in the crash, and the boy was taken to Palmetto Health Richland to be treated for his injuries. Sadly, he died Tuesday.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Gross is a repeat DUI offender. He has been charged with a felony DUI, driving under suspension and a seat belt violation. Most recently, the charged have been upgraded to include felony DUI resulting in a death.
